To
the left here you see degrees longitude. This is Greenwich Mean time where time
is set around the world
Above
and to the left you see St. Pauls Cathedral. The St Paul's cathedral was an
old anglos saxon wooden structure built around 900. It was destroyed along with
more than half of the city in the "great fire of London" in 1666. The top architect
of his day Sir Christopher Wren was given the commission for over 60 new churches,
lthe Chelsea Hospital, Greenwich palace, and his masterpiece, St Paul's Cathedral.
By its completion about 1680 it boasted the largest dome in the world ( an Italian
style later used for the Capitol in Washington). It is the burial place of many
great national figures including the Duke of Wellington (victor of the battle
of waterloo - the final defeat of Neapolitan) and Nelson. It was also the scene
for the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill and the wedding of prince Charles and
Lady Diana Spencer.
Above
and to the left you see a proper English Pub, named the Dove. Among one of Richard's
favorite pubs along the Thames. Fred, Miranda and Richard enjoyed lunch their
first day in London here.
Above
you see the tower of London, where political prisoners were kept in the dungeons.
Below
is the MI6 building, England's Version of the CIA. You may remember the James
Bond Movie Tomorrow Never Dies began with Bond jumping out of this building
in a jet boat.
